Alderney Hospital in Poole received a £10,000 donation from grant-giving charity, Talbot Village Trust, to build a wellness room for NHS staff.

The facility provides a much-needed space for employees to relax and recharge before or after a shift, and on their breaks. Decorated with neutral colours, adjustable lighting and comfortable furniture, the wellness room is specifically designed to bring a calming atmosphere for employees, away from their typically busy and high-pressured clinical environments.

The contribution from Talbot Village Trust ensured that within this space, a dedicated shower and changing area was built, which staff previously did not have access to.

Jane Cole, Facilities Manager at Alderney Hospital, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Talbot Village Trust in supporting this project. It has been amazing to now have a dedicated space to unwind for all of our staff, and will be an integral part of every employee’s life here at the hospital.”

Alderney Hospital is run by Dorset HealthCare and provides inpatient care for older people who require physical rehabilitation or have various mental health needs, such as dementia. Other community services are also provided for older people, predominantly focusing on mental wellness such as memory assessment and stroke services.

Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, Chairman of Talbot Village Trust, said: “It goes without saying that Alderney Hospital does incredible work for the community. To be able to support our local NHS workers by contributing to this wellness room is something that will make an immeasurable difference to the wellbeing of hospital staff.

“Providing a calm, relaxing place for our key workers to retreat to in such a busy, demanding environment is something that is absolutely essential. We’re pleased to have helped make this a reality, as it will soon become indispensable to the hospital staff for many years to come.”
