Working with local charity Faithworks Wessex, the church stores all the elements to provide a starter pack of furniture and household goods for those moving into more secure accommodation. The grant from Talbot Village Trust has funded a new boiler, updated the church’s electrics and made the building watertight once more.

Mikey Harris-James, Faithworks’ Storehouse Team Leader based at Destiny Life Church, said: “In the last nine months of 2021, we made over 100 deliveries to people moving into their own permanent accommodation. Beds, sofas, tables, kitchen crockery; all the items that transform a place into a home, are stored at the Destiny Life Church. All of this was at risk of being ruined from water damage to the old building, until we received the donation from Talbot Village Trust.

“This investment has granted longevity to our project, allowing us to continue our work to provide support for those escaping crisis. The project would love to hear from any members of the public who have good quality beds, sofas and other basic furniture they could donate to those in need.”

The Destiny Life Church “Storehouse” is also linked to Faithworks’ training programme to help ex-rough sleepers break the cycle of homelessness by gaining new practical skills, in this case, the logistics around the furniture work; there are other training placements at the Faithworks’ carpentry workshop and garden maintenance teams, and the team would love to also have a furniture upcycling project at the Storehouse as well.  The local community can buy goods made by the trainees in Faithworks Doorstop Shop or online and all profits are reinvested into supporting those in need as a reward for their efforts.

Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, Chairman of Talbot Village Trust, added: “Every single person deserves a permanent roof over their head as a human right. The work Faithworks carries out for those making this life-changing transition is inspiring, and we are always delighted to help where we can, to facilitate this and continue making a difference.”

If you would like to donate any furniture to the Destiny Life Church, please contact Mike on 07730 891433. Please note that where necessary, furniture must include fire labels.
