GUIDELINES

 

Eligibility to apply

If you would like to apply for a grant, your scheme can be of any size – but it must support local people. 

The application needs to be from a charity, faith-based organisation, school, university or properly constituted not-for-profit organisation. 

Your organisation must be based within the BCP council area, Purbeck or East Dorset.

When you apply, your organisation will need to prove that it has - or can - raise at least 25% match funding.

WHAT WE FUND

Examples of recent funding include:

 

Community

  • Community events
  • Repair and refurbishment of community buildings
  • Youth clubs and activities
  • Playground equipment
  • Venue hire
  • Festivals
  • Carer support
  • Programmes to address loneliness and isolation
  • Advisory and support services

Education

  • Training and learning opportunities
  • Improving playground facilities
  • Extramural / community activities
  • Specialist equipment

Faith

  • Improvements to places of worship and buildings with wide community use
  • Programmes or festivals open to all

Youth

  • Youth clubs and activities
  • Youth development projects

Health/ Medical

  • Community health and wellbeing services
  • Innovative hospital equipment
  • Hospices for the terminally ill
  • Defibrillators
  • First aid training
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Contributing to costs of counselling / therapy sessions

Environment

  • Environmental improvements to local areas
  • Restoration of green spaces
  • Promoting climate change awareness and actions

Tackling disadvantage

  • Accommodation, support and allied services for people with learning disabilities
  • Supporting foodbank service provision
  • Activities or facilities to support people with physical disabilities
  • Advice services
  • Programmes to alleviate poverty
  • Community kitchens
  • Homelessness

WHAT WE DON'T FUND


Generally the Trustees will not give assistance in the following circumstances.

Please note that we are reviewing this list; so if in doubt, please contact us.

  • Towards the cost of mini-buses and the like
  • Towards the cost of computer equipment
  • Where the application is to meet revenue expenditure or running costs, save that the Trustees will consider applications to contribute towards start-up costs for new projects which will be viable in the medium term
  • Where the application is to repay a loan or previous commitment
  • Where the applicant has not yet made efforts to raise some of the monies required
  • To fund the cost of foreign travel
  • To meet the costs of school swimming pools
  • Applications made by individuals save in exceptional circumstances
  • To fund research
  • To fund the cost of training and/or teaching
  • To fund facilities outside of the Area of Benefit even where these may be used by persons residing within the Area
  • Where the application is primarily concerned with the environment
  • Where the application is from an independent or fee paying school unless the application is to assist those who are disadvantaged
  • To fund the cost of repairs, etc. to places of worship and church buildings unless these benefit the wider community
  • Where the application is from a local authority school, unless the application is to meet expenditure which is clearly outside of the scope of funding for which the State should be responsible
  • To fund the installation of solar panels and similar energy saving devices.
